MP visit

Today our Pupil Parliament (our MPs) met our local MP James Morris and his assistant Sam.  Our MPs were an absolute credit to the school, so polite and so articulate regarding the questions they asked. Some questions were very deep and thoughtful such as: “what is the most difficult decision you have faced as an MP?“. James and Sam were both highly complementary regarding the question and answer session. It was lovely for James as MP to directly respond to their letter about the crossing patrol and already in the conversation we have a plan that we will follow through in our own newsletter to see if Temple Meadows can solve the issue.

I asked James if they ever accommodate primary-age pupils on a visit to Westminster; they most definitely do; so I might see if I can add this to Mrs Van Straaten’s to do list for the next academic year as Headteacher (I might have to offer to be a helper on the trip). It would be tricky to arrange but it would be really special. I remember going when in high school as I grew up in London and it was really memorable seeing such iconic and historic buildings.

I must say James Morris was very personable and lovely with the children. He answered their many questions and valued every single pupil response. I’m sure this was a truly memorable day for them all.

As I showed him out we chatted about many of our fabulous displays that showcase the learning that happens at Temple Meadow and we discussed how it is so important to us that our diverse community is fully represented in our curriculum design and our approach to school life; where we try hard to address unconscious bias and where everything we do is value driven. We aim to invite him back in the future and we would also love to hear his assistant Sam’s job role too in our Aiming High Learning 4 Life curriculum. Big thank you to Miss Dale (Deputy) for supporting this visit today.

This event today once again showcased the essence of Temple Meadow pupils, who are so rewarding to work with and demonstrate so clearly the wonderful trail blazing future adults they all have the potential to be. In my retirement year, I’m just soaking all this up and I am clearly having too much fun with all the lovely things currently happening in and around school.
