Employment Opportunities

Attendance Officer

We are seeking to appoint a committed and motivated Attendance Officer to join our busy, two-form entry primary school. This is a key role within our school community, where you will have a real opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of our children and families.

Temple Meadow Primary School serves a community with high levels of deprivation, and our attendance has historically been below the national average, with a significant proportion of persistent absence over time. We are determined to improve outcomes for our pupils and recognise that regular attendance is fundamental to children’s success, wellbeing, and long-term life chances.

The role is full-time, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You will start at 8:00am each day, ensuring you are available to promptly make contact with families where there are concerns about absence and to take immediate action to support improved attendance from the start of the school day.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about inclusion and improving attendance, and who is willing to invest time in really getting to know our children and their families. You will work directly with pupils, gaining their views on attendance and understanding the barriers they face. You will take a proactive and creative approach, working alongside families to identify solutions and reduce barriers to attendance.

As part of the role, you will conduct home visits where appropriate, analyse attendance data to identify trends and priorities, and signpost families to relevant support services. You will work closely with our school’s Senior Leadership Team, including our Deputy Headteacher, who has already established strong systems and structures to support attendance. You will also liaise with the Local Authority, including working closely with the School Attendance Support Officer (SASO), to ensure a coordinated and effective approach.

You will be supported by an experienced pastoral team within school, who play a key role in working with families and supporting pupil wellbeing. In addition, we engage with wider support networks such as Attendance Hubs, which help to guide and strengthen our practice in tackling persistent absence.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of current legislation and Government initiatives related to school attendance, alongside excellent communication and organisational skills. Most importantly, you will bring energy, resilience, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

In return, we offer the opportunity to work within a supportive and dedicated team, where your contribution will have a meaningful and visible impact every day.

If you are driven to make a difference and believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed through regular attendance, we would love to hear from you.

Applications can be submitted to the school office, either in person or via email to tm.admin@meadow.sandwell.sch.uk. Application packs can be downloaded from the Local Authority website, as well as the school website. Potential applicants are very welcome to contact the school on 01384 569021 for a discussion or visits prior to application.

Temple Meadow is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups including children, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS clearance is therefore required for this role.
