Inclusion

Mrs Van Straaten - Headteacher & SENDCo

Mrs Bayley - Inclusion Lead
At Temple Meadow Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported to achieve their full potential. Inclusion is at the heart of our work and we have high ambitions for all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Meeting the needs of children with SEND is a shared responsibility. Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), Mrs Van Straaten, holds the National Award for SEN Coordination and works closely with staff, families, governors and external professionals to ensure that children receive the support they need.
We understand that the most effective inclusion strategy begins with high-quality, inclusive teaching every day. Our staff have a strong understanding of the wide range of barriers that children may face in their learning, attendance, wellbeing and development. Through ongoing assessment and a deep knowledge of our children, staff identify needs quickly and accurately, adapting teaching, provision and support to remove barriers and enable children to participate fully in school life.
By working closely in partnership with families, listening carefully to their views and making best use of their knowledge and understanding of their child, we are able to develop a shared approach that supports positive outcomes. We believe that strong relationships between home and school are fundamental to ensuring children feel understood, supported and successful.
We believe that every child should have access to a broad, ambitious and inclusive curriculum that enables them to succeed academically, develop confidence and independence, and prepare for the next stage of their education and life beyond school. Through high-quality teaching, carefully adapted provision and strong relationships, we remove barriers to learning and participation so that all children can thrive.
We recognise that children learn, communicate and develop in different ways. Some children may require additional support with learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, social interaction or physical needs. We work closely with children and families to understand individual strengths and needs, ensuring that support is tailored appropriately and that children are fully included in all aspects of school life.
Our aim is for every child to experience a strong sense of belonging, achieve well from their individual starting points, and leave Temple Meadow as a confident, resilient and well-prepared learner. We are committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of need or circumstance, are able to flourish, contribute positively to school life and be fully prepared for their next steps in education and beyond.
