Friday 7th February 2025

Dear Families,

We’ve had an exciting and busy week at school, with many highlights to share! Year 2 children have been working hard on designing and cooking their own pizzas; a fantastic hands-on learning experience. Our Year 5 & 6 MPs had the opportunity to attend a mental health conference, where they gained valuable insights. A huge thank you to the students at St. Michael's for designing and hosting such an inspiring event focused on positive mental health – it was a wonderful experience for a group of our children.

As we approach the final week before half-term, we want to remind Early Years families to check the dates for your class Stay and Play sessions. Also, don’t forget that 5 Rosen children will be performing their Ukulele concert for families on Thursday 13th February and children in 4 Cowell will be showcasing their PBone performance on Friday 14th February.

Where's your head at?

The Where’s Your Head At conference took place on Wednesday 5th February 2025 at The Hawthorns. Hosted by the Student Voice team at St Michael’s CE High School, the event brought together Rowley primary schools for a day focused on well-being.

Our Year 5 and 6 MPs had a fantastic time. They met Baggie Bird and took part in activities based on the five ways to well-being: give, be active, take notice, connect and learn. The children also enjoyed a full stadium tour and participated in a Q&A session with three West Bromwich Albion academy players.

It was an inspiring and memorable experience and our children were a credit to Temple Meadow.

Year 2 Pizza Making

Year 2 had a fabulous time last week creating and cooking their own pizzas. Their pizzas had to be healthy, contain 2 of our 5 a day and be made using products from the UK. After previously drawing a detailed plan of their pizza and deciding on what ingredients were needed, last Friday they turned their hand to being excellent prep cooks. All the ingredients had to chopped and grated ready to assemble their mouth-watering pizzas.

Once assembled and put into the ovens to cook, Year 2 was the envy of Key Stage One as a wonderful aroma floated down the corridor. You should be very proud of yourselves Year 2 – I hope your pizzas tasted as good as they looked!

Artsmark Certification

We are thrilled to announce that Temple Meadow has been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Gold certificate! This morning, Mrs Van Straaten proudly presented the award to Mrs Collins during our celebration assembly. Mrs Collins leads Art at Temple Meadow and has played a key role in this fantastic achievement.

A huge thank you to all staff across the school who have contributed to making this possible. Your dedication and passion for the arts continue to inspire our children every day!

Music Mark Certification

We are delighted to share that we have been re-accredited with the Music Mark. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to providing a high-quality music curriculum to all children here at Temple Meadow.

Home Learning

A huge thank you to all our families who completed the recent home learning questionnaire—we had 55 responses! It was great to see how much you value home learning while also providing valuable feedback on how it could adapt and evolve.

On Monday, we held a really productive Home Learning Working Party meeting. A big thank you to both the teachers and parents who attended. We explored and discussed many aspects of home learning across the school, generating ideas that we hope will support as many families as possible in engaging with home learning moving forward.

We have now shared and taken on board our childrens' views through our Pupil Parliament and I will be sending a separate communication to share our new approach which you can expect before half term.

Polite Reminder

Please be reminded that children should not be bringing items from home into school. We have had a number of incidents this week where children have come to school with personal belongings, attempting to swap or give them to their peers. Unfortunately, this has led to several conflicts and disruptions within the school.

To ensure a smooth and focused learning environment, we kindly ask that all children leave personal items at home

Mrs Van Straaten loves spending time in Forest School with Mrs Bayley and our children, who love exploring the outdoors. We are so lucky to have this amazing provision here at Temple Meadow! This week, Mrs Van Straaten learned how to start a fire using a flint.

Cradley Heath Salvation Army are looking to create a community garden and are asking for local people’s opinions and ideas on the proposal.

They have created a short survey, and I wondered if you would be able to share it with your parents and families, please?

The survey link is here https://forms.office.com/e/PM98fKzqWP and there is a free hot drink in their café on offer for everyone who completes the survey before next Friday 14th February!!
