Dear Families,

It has been an exciting week here at Temple Meadow! I have loved seeing the many fantastic learning opportunities taking place across the school.

Year 6 have been busy baking fruit loaves, developing their teamwork skills.

Reception and Year 2 children had a wonderful time visiting our travelling planetarium, bringing their learning about space to life.

Year 5 and 6 had an incredible experience using VR headsets with the police, gaining a unique perspective on important safety topics.

Year 3 continued with their swimming sessions, building confidence and developing their skills in the water.

Miss Nugent has been running dance workshops for small groups of children across the school, inspiring creativity and movement.

Just a reminder that our next Family Engagement Evening will be on Wednesday 5th March between 3:30–6:00 pm. A separate communication with more details will follow next week.

Please read on to find out more about these events and other exciting learning happening across the school this week.

Space Day

Wow, what an amazing day our Reception team had this week for Space Day! A huge thanks to all our families who supported by sending their children dressed in their best space gear. We had a visiting planetarium and the children were absolutely mesmerised.

Their day began as they entered ‘space school,’ listening to music and travelling to the moon. We admired everyone’s fantastic costumes before heading out to the playground for astronaut training. After counting down from 10 to 0, the children completed astronaut exercises and worked in teams to collect as many moon rocks as possible.

Inside the planetarium, they explored the solar system and discovered fascinating facts about the planets. It was truly an awe-inspiring experience for everyone.

Throughout the afternoon, the children engaged in a variety of space-themed activities, including making space passports, rescuing astronauts from ice, launching flying rockets, and exploring fizzy moon rockets and water.

The day ended with some exciting science experiments—what a fantastic way to wrap up!

Both children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the day—it was a BLAST! A huge thank you to our Reception teaching team for creating such a memorable learning experience for all.

Amazing Nursery Work

Our Nursery children have been working hard on their early writing skills this week! They have been practising writing their name and we are so proud of their progress. Take a look at some of their fantastic efforts.

Vaylen came to see me as Headteacher to receive an award for his fantastic writing—a wonderful achievement!

Year 6 Bake Delicious Fruit Loaf

Our Year 6 children had a fantastic time in class today, putting their baking skills to the test as they made delicious fruit loaves! From measuring ingredients to mixing and baking, they worked carefully to follow the recipe and create their own tasty treats.

This hands-on activity not only helped develop their cooking skills but also reinforced their understanding of weights, measures, and following instructions. The classroom was filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked fruit loaf and the children were so proud of their creations!

Well done, Year 6—we hope you enjoyed tasting your bakes as much as you enjoyed making them!

Huggle Pets Coming to Temple Meadow!

After half term, we are excited to welcome Huggle Pets to support children’s mental health through animal-assisted therapy. Identified children will have the opportunity to engage with therapy animals, including a dog, rabbits, and bearded dragons.

We are also fundraising to continue this initiative into the autumn term, with a target of £1,500. Look out for upcoming events!

For more details, please read the letter sent this week.

Occupational Therapist Training

This week, our teaching team was fortunate to receive a training session from Meradith, our enhanced service Occupational Therapist. The session was incredibly insightful, providing us with strategies to support regulation and well-being in the classroom.

For those interested, here is a useful link to understand why deep breathing exercises are so important and som suggestions for calming activities.

How does deep breathing help? The Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system.
