Dear Parents/Carers

We cannot believe that we are only one week away from the spring half-term holiday; it has been a very busy half-term. This week, Year 1 had a Reggae Steel Drum Workshop company working with them. That certainly brought a lovely energy to Monday morning (see below for more information). Recently, we had a Gospel Choir in school. All these enrichment opportunities bring a range of musical experiences for our pupils, complimenting our wider opportunities within our music curriculum that allow for 3 times in a journey through school to have an opportunity to learn a musical instrument.

Next week, a range of events are happening in school. It will be National Children Mental Health Week and this year, the theme is 'My Voice Matters'. Miss Dale will be leading a whole school assembly about this on Monday morning. We also have Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, where Mr Smith has arranged some appropriate events.

We also have some visitors in school on Wednesday linked to our acceptance on a DfE (Department of Education) initiative linked to metacognition and self-regulation. I will explain so much more about this at a later date about what these words truly mean and how this initiative will benefit school. We were one of only 20 schools (50 applied) that have got access to this very interesting project all focused on improving educational outcomes and experiences for pupils.

Art Work

Thank you to both Year 6 classes for the beautiful artwork that they created at home, taking advantage of our new art loan pack initiative.

We launched the initiative in December in our effort to help achieve another ArtsMark Award and further improve pupils’ art and creative skills. As part of this new initiative, pupils can loan a variety of art bags which contain different pieces of equipment. Mrs Collins has mentioned this initiative in the Arts Newsletter.

Please see some of the images below that pupils have created and will be displayed in and around school.

Crossing on Waterfall Lane

In relation to the previous queries raised by our Parent/Carer community linked to the absent road safety assistant on Waterfall Lane, we wanted to take this opportunity to reassure you that we remain in dialogue with the Local Authority regarding safety strategies that are currently under consideration. We will update you if and when have further news to share.

Measles Update

Please see the below message from the Sandwell Immunisations Team:

Vaccination UK have been instructed by NHSE to administer the MMR vaccination to all school aged children who are outstanding one or both doses. The MMR would have been given at the age of 1 year and the second dose at 3 years and 4 months. There has been an outbreak of Measles in the West Midlands which has been on the rise within the last few weeks. If your child is outstanding one or both doses of the MMR, please contact 01215921110 to make an appointment. This will be at an alternative venue and NOT at the school'

We would encourage all Parents/Carers who have children who have not received both doses of the vaccine to contact the above number and arrange to do so.

Safer Internet Day

Next week, pupils will be learning about Safer Internet Day. From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns. As a whole-school initiative, pupils will complete outcomes to promote the value of “Together for a Better Internet”. Pupils will have an opportunity to showcase their learning and outcomes will be shared once complete.
