As we move beyond the halfway point of Autumn 1, it is hard to believe how quickly the term is progressing. School continues to be a busy, vibrant place, with children settling well into their new classes, embracing learning opportunities and demonstrating the positive attitudes that make us so proud of them.
As part of our celebration of Black History Month, children took part in an assembly this week to learn about the significance of this important national event and the contributions of influential Black individuals throughout history. To further enrich this learning, children will also explore the lives and achievements of key Black figures through reading and comprehension activities within their lessons.
Next week marks a particularly exciting milestone for our some of our Year 5 & Year 6 children as they head off on their residential visit to Plas Gwynant in Wales. The week will provide opportunities for children to challenge themselves, develop resilience, strengthen friendships and create memories that will stay with them for years to come. Activities such as climbing, canoeing, gorge walking and problem-solving are designed to build confidence and encourage children to discover just what they are capable of achieving. We wish all of our Year 6 children and accompanying staff a fantastic week away and look forward to hearing all about their adventures on their return.
We will also be celebrating World Mental Health Day on Thursday 8th October, following the rearrangement of our planned celebrations. Children and staff are invited to wear yellow as we come together to promote positive mental health and wellbeing and recognise this year's theme, Mental Health for All. Thank you to everyone who has already supported our Mental Health and Wellbeing Photo Competition, and we look forward to a day focused on kindness, wellbeing and supporting one another.
Finally, a reminder that Friday 9th October 2026 is an INSET Day and school will be closed to all children. This change has been made to allow colleagues, past and present, the opportunity to attend the funeral of former Headteacher, Ms Walsh, whose dedication and service left a lasting legacy within our school community. We thank families for their understanding and support during this time.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
