Friday 19th June 2026

As we move into Week 3 of the summer term, it is hard to believe that there are now only 4 weeks remaining of the academic year. This is always one of the busiest and most exciting times in our school calendar, with so many events, visits and celebrations taking place. Please do ensure that you keep up to date with all upcoming events so that nothing is missed.

On Monday, we were incredibly proud to host our Dance Festival here at Temple Meadow. Children from 6 schools joined us for a truly special day filled with energy, creativity and collaboration.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of exciting workshops, including Commercial Jazz, Contemporary and Hip-hop, before performing in the afternoon around this year’s theme,‘New Era’.

Our children were absolutely amazing – demonstrating confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout. We are so proud of the commitment they have shown in recent weeks working alongside Miss Nugent and it was wonderful to see them shine on stage.

A huge well done to everyone involved and thank you to Miss Nugent for working so hard to arrange this – it was a memorable and uplifting event for all.

On Wednesday, we welcomed two external moderators into school to review our Year 6 English writing assessments. These visits take place periodically and provide important validation of teacher judgements.

I am delighted to share that all teacher assessments were agreed, which is a fantastic achievement.

A huge congratulations and thank you to our Year 6 team for their dedication, professionalism and unwavering support in guiding our pupils to this important milestone at the end of their primary writing journey.

On Thursday, our Year 1 children enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This trip provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to explore plant habitats, learn about nature and wildlife, and engage in hands-on activities linked to their learning.

The children represented the school beautifully and made the most of this enriching outdoor experience.

We have shared a letter this week with Year 5 families outlining the exciting opportunity for children to apply for the roles of Head Boy and Head Girl for the next academic year.

Children are invited to prepare a presentation to showcase how they would contribute to the school community and demonstrate our core values.

We look forward to seeing the creativity, leadership and ambition from our Year 5 pupils.

A reminder that our Growth and Progress Summary Reports will be shared at the end of term. These reports are always a pleasure to read, celebrating the achievements, progress and personal development of every child.

Looking Ahead

Year 2 Visit – Weston Beach

On Monday, our Year 2 pupils will be heading off to Weston Beach for what promises to be a fantastic day on the seaside.

We are asking each child to ensure they have a hat, plenty of drinks and sun cream with them for the visit. Children are able to wear their own clothes; we would recommend a t-shirt and a pair of shorts.

Sports Days

We are very much looking forward to welcoming families to our annual Sports Days, taking place next week. Each session will include two year groups, and every child will take part in all races, ensuring a fully inclusive and enjoyable experience.

Remember to bring some change with you for some refreshments.

Dates and times:

Tuesday 23rd June

  • 9:00 – 10:30: Year 3 & 4
  • 1:30 – 3:00: Year 1 & 2

Wednesday 24th June

Summer Colours Day

Next Friday, we will be celebrating Summer Colours Day. Children are invited to come dressed in bright, colourful summer-themed outfits as we come together to create a whole-school rainbow.

  • Red – Early Years
  • Orange – Year 1
  • Yellow – Year 2
  • Green – Year 3
  • Blue – Year 4
  • Purple – Year 5
  • Pink – Year 6

Suggested contribution is £2 per child in cash towards our OPAL fundraising campaign.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are looking forward to an exciting and memorable final few weeks of the academic year.

Celebrating our Kitchen

We are really pleased to be able to share that our school meal provider, SIPS, has been accredited with a Gold Award following a recent kitchen audit, achieving an impressive 98%.

Stars Beyond School

We’re proud to celebrate some more of Billy’s fantastic achievements this week!

He has passed Stage 5 in the Learn to Swim UK programme and been selected for Sandwell Aquatics Swimming Club.

Billy also appeared on Black Country Radio, speaking about his wrestling journey, WrestleMania visit and fundraising - and did an amazing job! He even gave a shout-out to Mrs Colwell and Mrs Whyle.

His interview will air on Black Country Extra at 8pm for the next four Fridays.

Well done, Billy!

Water Safety Awareness Message from West Midlands Fire Service

During the hot spell over the late May Bank Holiday weekend and half-term holiday, there were a number of tragic incidents around the country, many involving young people.  The forecast over the coming weeks is for temperatures to rise again.

To keep yourself and your loved ones safe around water please be aware of the following:

  • Of all drownings in 2025, 57% took place in inland water – canals, rivers, lakes, ponds – the type of bodies of water we have lots of in the West Midlands.
  • Even if the weather is warm the water may be cold, causing your body to go inro cold water shock.
  • If you fall into water Float to Live – put your head back, float on your back and keep yourself stable by using small movements of your hands.
  • Once you are stable you may call for help or swim to the bank if it is feasible.
  • Do not go into the water to save people or pets. Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

For more information about staying safe around water please visit the West Midlands Fire Service water safety page (https://www.wmfs.net/safety/water-safety/) or the RNLI Education Resources page (https://rnli.org/youth-education/education-resources).
