Friday 5th June 2026

Welcome back to the final half term of the academic year. It is set to be a very busy and exciting one, filled with lots of memorable experiences for our children.

This is a particularly special time for our Year 6 children, as it is their final half-term at Temple Meadow before they transition to secondary school. We look forward to celebrating their achievements and supporting them in making this important next step.

This week, we'd like to introduce our new weekly feature Shining Stars Showcase. Each week, we will showcase the fantastic academic achievements from across the curriculum. Year 6 are currently working incredibly hard on their writing outcomes as we prepare for our Local Authority Writing moderation visit and what better way to start our Shining Stars Showcase with some of our fantastic Year 6 writers.

We’re looking forward to our Summer Festival on Wednesday 15th July 2026 – a full day of activities for children, followed by family fun after school.  We are still welcoming raffle prize donations – if you or someone you know can help, please contact the school office.

There are also a limited number of community stalls available to hire. If interested, please email tm.admin@meadow.sandwell.sch.uk. Thank you for your continued support as we raise funds for our OPAL project, helping to enhance outdoor play for our children.

Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to be hosting our Nursery Open Event on Wednesday 10th June. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to come and see what we offer in our Early Years provision. If you, or someone you know, have a child due to start Nursery, please do encourage them to attend. Details on how to register can be found below – we would greatly appreciate your support in spreading the word within our community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Home - Outdoor Play and LearningWe are delighted to share how successfully our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) provision is developing. The children are thoroughly enjoying the increased freedom to explore all areas of our playground and field, and it has been wonderful to see their creativity and engagement flourish.

Some of our OPAL activities currently include:

  • Small world play
  • Cars and trains
  • Music and speaker use
  • Bubbles
  • Dressing up
  • Chalk and free drawing

We are also in the process of opening our quiet area, which will become our new ‘Zen Garden’. This will provide a calm and reflective space for children to relax and recharge during lunchtimes.

At the start of this week, we had a further development session with Ruth from OPAL. She spent time out on the playground during a KS2 lunchtime and was extremely complimentary about the children. She praised their curiosity, their positive interactions, and the way they engaged with the opportunities available.

We are excited to continue developing our lunchtime offer and making further improvements to enrich play opportunities for all children.

How You Can Help

To support our OPAL provision, we would greatly appreciate any donations of the following items:

Dress-up and clothing items:

  • Fancy dress
  • Hats
  • Blazers, jackets, waistcoats
  • Dresses and skirts

Play and outdoor resources:

  • Brooms
  • Trowels
  • Pots and pans
  • Plastic bowls
  • Large kitchen utensils (e.g. wooden spoons, ladles, tongs, spatulas)

Donations can be placed in the drop boxes by the community shed or handed in at the school office.

Your support makes a significant difference in helping us create engaging, imaginative play experiences for our children.

From Thursday 11th June, the FIFA World Cup will be reflected in school through a range of optional, light-touch activities. Children will be randomly allocated a country (or sometimes two) and will track their team’s progress in class as a fun way to explore teamwork, geography and global events. Small football-themed prizes will be awarded for participation.

Mrs Smith has also launched a whole-school Geography competition. Children are invited to create a fact file or leaflet about their allocated country. They may include information such as the flag, population, languages, climate, key features, famous people and festivals. Layout and design are entirely their choice. Please see our letter below for more details.

FIFA World Cup 2026 - School Approach and Activities Overview

 Shining Stars Showcase

  • Aizah has written a vivid setting description inspired by sitting beside a campfire at sunset, using rich imagery to bring the scene to life.
  • Sandra has created a thoughtful and imaginative poem exploring a range of ‘what if’ scenarios.
  • Leah has produced a detailed setting description based on the witch’s house from Hansel and Gretel, capturing atmosphere and suspense effectively.

Well done to all three children for their excellent efforts and creativity!
