Friday 30th January 2026

This week, we have been pleased to welcome DECCA into school, where they have led informative sessions across all year groups on staying safe and making positive life choices. Our Year 5 children also enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Birmingham Art Gallery, taking part in engaging Ancient Greek workshops.

As a school community, we are incredibly proud to have supported Amelia in reaching her amazing goal of collecting 8,000 Birthday Cards!

Our children came together with huge hearts and creative hands and we are delighted to share that we contributed 314 birthday cards toward her goal.

Amelia’s kindness, determination and positivity have inspired us all. Knowing that our small part will help her to reach her goal fills us with pride.

Next week, we look forward to hosting our Nursery Stay and Play sessions, which will focus on communication and language (see separate communication for details). Year 6 will also be visiting Safeside in Birmingham on Wednesday. Safeside features an immersive, full-size indoor safety village, including realistic scenarios such as a bank, house, road, shop, police station and canal. This hands-on experience allows children to explore real-life dangers in a safe and controlled environment, helping them develop vital safety awareness. We look forward to sharing some photographs with you next week.

On Friday, Reception will be holding their Writing Stay and Play session - please see the letter sent for more details. Looking ahead, we are also super excited to begin seeing some of the small changes to our school environment linked to OPAL after half term. These developments will support richer, more creative play experiences for all children and we look forward to sharing progress with you.

📚 Introducing Our School Sponsored Read!

We’re excited to share that Temple Meadow will be holding a whole‑school Sponsored Read from Monday 2nd February to Friday 13th February 2026.

Sponsorship forms will be coming home on Monday, but we wanted to let families know in advance about this fantastic opportunity to celebrate reading both at home and in school.

This event is being run in partnership with our local Usborne Books representative. All money raised will go directly towards buying brand new books for our school. Even better - Usborne will donate up to 60% extra in free books on top of the sponsorship collected.

For every £300 raised, we will receive an additional £180 worth of books, completely free.

Our whole‑school target is £600, which would give us an extra £360 in free books - meaning a total of £960 to spend on high-quality reading materials for our children.

To take part, we’re encouraging all children to spend a little time each day enjoying reading in any form - books, comics, magazines, recipes, poems, newspapers, menus or even instruction leaflets. Whether children read independently, read to someone, or are read to, it all counts!

The official sponsorship forms will follow on Monday.

Thank you in advance for your support in helping us continue to grow a love of reading and expand the fantastic range of books available to our children.

Free Learn to Ride Sessions – February Half Term

We are delighted to share a fantastic opportunity available to children aged 7 and above during the February half term.

Free Learn to Ride sessions will be taking place at West Smethwick Park and Sandwell Valley. These sessions are perfect for children who would like support and guidance in learning how to ride a bike.

The sessions are delivered by Bike Right, who will also be providing bikes and helmets for children to borrow and use during the lessons—so there’s no need to bring your own equipment.

Families with children in Year 3 and above are encouraged to book using the link below:

 Book here!

This is a wonderful opportunity for children to build confidence, develop new skills, and enjoy being active outdoors.
