Assistant Headteacher (English and Most Able whole school)


Temple Meadow need an experienced and dynamic leader to join us as an Assistant Headteacher; leading on English and Most Able and teaching within KS2 starting in January 2018. You need to be an outstanding practitioner able to lead, nurture and develop staff. In this role as AHT, you will contribute to all the exciting developments that continue to improve our lovely school. Your in class practice must be exemplary and you must be highly skilled at leading, learning and developing the staff in your phase. Current experience of KS2 SATS assessment is highly desirable.


As Assistant Headteacher, you will be responsible for leading on English and Most Able whole school. English has been consistently well led in the past at Temple Meadow and our achievements in English, especially writing are firmly rooted in our irresistible approach to the curriculum, which always has strong texts as drivers of each topic. The Deputy Head has temporarily led on English since the summer and has developed a very positive action plan; therefore, you will have a clear starting point to take English forward and benefit from active support for your induction into Temple Meadow. We have so much good practice regarding teaching and learning generally and English in particular, including Talk for Writing, Collaborative learning, excellent Phonic practice (led by the Early Years Assistant Head) and an exciting approach to teaching reading comprehension. You will of course bring your own unique ideas and innovations to leading English and Most Able whole school; and to school development generally. We really are looking forward to hearing new ideas and approaches to school development. In your role as AHT, you will be part of our SLT comprised of Head, Deputy, two other AHT (each leading a phase) and our SBM. You will be part of setting the direction for the school and raising standards in all areas. Our SLT is developmental and you will be supported in managing change and supporting improvement to ensure sustainability. As an SLT, we pride ourselves on high quality structures and systems. Your will need experience of action planning to move initiatives forward.


Reading is our key issue currently at KS2 but a distinct strength in KS1 and EYS. We have a new clearly focused action plan linked to our School Development Plan, which will improve this rapidly. We are therefore looking for somewhere to hit the ground running with experience of leadership and a proven record of managing and leading change. It is essential that you have had middle leader experience able to think strategically, action plan and use assessment data effectively. It is so important that you are a credible leader i.e. always modelling the excellent practice that you need others to aspire to. You need to be a consummate professional; be organised and forward thinking; always flexible; always approachable and supportive to others.


We are a two form entry Primary School, judged Good at our last Ofsted. To apply you must have a minimum of three years’ experience as a qualified teacher and experience of effective middle leadership and / or be an existing Assistant Head. You need a proven record of raising standards within a primary setting (the post is not suitable for a secondary teacher). Ideally, you will have experience of urban Local Authorities such as Sandwell and an understanding of the range of diverse needs that affect school life. We set great store by developing CPD opportunities through staff training; coaching and mentoring; and working with external providers.


Temple Meadow is an exciting place to teach and lead; our pupils are quite frankly adorable; always polite, friendly and eager to learn. Behaviour and attitude to learning is excellent.
